Use genuine Glory Standard Thinner or Multi-Purpose Thinner. Do NOT use white spirit or turpentine, which are incompatible with nitrocellulose.
For open-grain hardwoods (like oak or mahogany), apply two coats, sanding lightly between coats. For fine-grain woods, one coat is usually sufficient.
