Power-floated concrete creates a dense, glassy surface layer (laitance) with closed surface pores. If epoxy is applied without mechanical profiling, the resin cannot penetrate and bond to the substrate, causing it to flake and peel as soon as loaded forklifts make tight turns. We mechanically diamond grind the slab to create an open Concrete Surface Profile (CSP 2-3) before applying an epoxy primer.
For standard forklift traffic and warehousing, a high-build epoxy coating of 500 to 1,000 microns (0.5mm to 1.0mm) is standard. For extreme point loading from high-bay pallet racking, solid nylon wheels, or steel wheel transfer carts, a heavy-duty self-smoothing epoxy or polyurethane screed of 2mm to 4mm thickness is required.
